Friday Friend Recipe # 108 -- Blue Cheese Cheese Ball

My Friday Friend Cookbook Countdown #108!

My Mom's Blue Cheese Cheese Ball
and you know all the whys and wherefores of this countdown, right? Homemade cookbook, friends contributed, Handyman said I couldn't/wouldn't do it, I'll show him, yadda yadda yadda....

Cheeseballs.
Everyone has a recipe for one, right?
Just a mere 7 recipes ago, I posted about Mitzi's Festive Cheeseball.  And I have 5 more cheeseballs to post about from the Friday Friend Cookbook--4 of which are my mom's.
I guess having the perfect cheeseball for any occasion calls for some slight variation once in a while, but the basic premise of every cheeseball  is cream cheese, make into a ball, roll in nuts.
You had me at cream cheese.

This one's really good tho!

Blue Cheese Cheese Ball
Bev Hambelton--my mom

1/4 lb. Velveeta
1 8oz cream cheese
1 4oz wedge blue cheese
4 T Miracle Whip
1 t. garlic salt
chopped nuts

Beat together (except nuts) until smooth and well blended.  Wet hands, make into balls and roll in nuts.

I took this photo from the Friday Friend Cookbook--my mom's cheeseball page:

I have no idea why it struck me as funny?

You know what else I think is funny?  And kind of weird?
Putting a coat on a dog!
Okay, to be honest, there is no 'kind of' in my thinking.  Putting a coat on a dog is just plain weird.  But hilarious in a way.
But here is my mom and her dog Boo in a Christmas coat!
This had to have been a joke, right?  I did not grow up with a woman who would put a coat on a dog!

My mom loved the holidays.  Every single one of them, but Christmas she really loved.  Of course because of family, friends, traditions, Jesus and food.
Not to put food above Jesus, of course, but food and family traditions involving food, ran a close 2nd!

After I got married, I moved far away--500 miles---from family, and the Handyman worked retail at the time, so didn't have time off at Christmas, my mom and dad drove 500 miles thru icy, snowing, wintery roads to celebrate with us that first Christmas we were away.
I was so excited that I prepared and made about 12 different kinds of cookies, and had planned on a few appetizers etc. for Christmas eve dinner.  I had lots of food.

When my mom and dad arrived, there were hugs all around (this was in the days before cell phones, so arrivals were always a sense of relief too, not having had any word at all during the trip), happy chattering, dancing around grandma, and then....then, we began to help unload the car.

Christmas gifts, luggage and... a box....of about 12 different cookies she had made!
We had never had that many different Christmas cookies before!  Or since, for that matter.  It's kind of sad to say that 4 adults,  a five-year old and a 2-year old made quite a dent in all those cookies!
There was also a cooler with some mincemeat, homemade sausage, and a couple different cheeseballs.

One of which was this cheeseball!

When they stayed closer to home during the holidays it was a tradition at my brother's home for Santa  Claus to make a Christmas Eve appearance.  Or in the case below, Father Christmas?
As usual, my mother could make any body laugh.  She was a glass half full person.

And that's my story about my mom.
Christmas cookie baker and cheeseball (5 in the cookbook??) aficionado!

I finally sat down and counted the recipes in the FF Cookbook.
398.
This is 108, but I am up to 132 in my drafts.  (I need to post faster)
THAT IS EXACTLY 1/3 of the way done!
