Non-Fiction November - Week 1

I've mentioned this before--I think it was last year around this time-- but Nonfiction November is my favorite annual book blogging event.
I always learn about so many great books and subjects from all of you!

Today's (this week's actually) topic is--My year in Nonfiction.

What was your favorite nonfiction read of the year?  May I have a 4-way tie please?

What nonfiction book have you recommended the most? May I have a 4-way tie again please?  I love, love, love Foodie books, and I love, love, love memoirs, and I love, love, love travel books and I love, love, love history books. So from this year I'd recommend  "Eight Flavors",  "Stingray Afternoons", "At Home in the World" and "Captured".

What is one topic or type of nonfiction you haven’t read enough of yet? As a rule, I wish I'd read more non-fiction than I do.  But because I love foodie memoirs the most, I guess I can never read 'enough' of them.

What are you hoping to get out of participating in Nonfiction November?  My short answer is above--I always learn about so many great books and subjects from all of you who participate.

My list of nonfiction for this year is kind of short, but all were very good.  I'll go for quality of quantity for now.
I really liked all of these.

I can't wait to see what everyone else is reading!

Here are our hosts for the month...many thanks to them!!

I loved Brown Girl Dreaming and One Summer too! I listened to One Summer and need to get it in print for my mom.

You're the second person I've seen recommending "Reading People"--I will have to check that one out.

I love foodie books (& travel and memoirs and history and environmental...:-D) too - perhaps you'll have to create a list of all the ones you've read so we can all be tempted?

A lot of really interesting stuff on here! Particularly the first two, Tribe and Captured, are catching my attention right now. Looking forward to what else you read over the month. :)

I just did my nonfiction in 2017 post as well, it's over here if you're interested: http://www.bookpunks.com/become-obsessed-memoirs/

I enjoyed Tribe and loved Brown Girl Dreaming. Reading People is one of the books I hope to get to in November, and I've just added Eight Flavors and AT Home in the World to my wish list. Thanks!

That's the second time I've seen the same Bill Bryson book mentioned in a Nonfiction November post. Yet another reminder that I have one of his books languishing on my TBR list. I'll definitely have to read it soon! It's called The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way. And I didn't read much nonfiction last year either, only three titles. I'm aiming to get more in next year.

I loved Brown Girl Dreaming too, but thought it was a verse novel. I haven't even heard of any of your other books!

I can't wait to see what you read! I loved The Comfort Food Diaries though it was't quite as fluffy as I expected (not a bad thing.) Reading People is really high on my list too. It looks great!

One Summer was indeed an awesome read. Bill Bryson never ceases to impress me. At Home in the World is high on my TBR list. Must get to it soon!
