Chocolate Chip Cookie #6 (and a little book talk)

I can accomplish 2 things with one blog post here.... because  in my artistic endeavors, I placed 2 of my favorite things together in the same photo:  books and cookies.  Cookies and books.   The two go together like  peanut butter and jelly,  like bacon and eggs, like ME AND THE HANDYMAN!!

I have read two of the books above and am in the middle of the third,  and, well, it's about the same percentage for the cookies...I've eaten about  2/3 of them. And THAT is why I am far between in my cookie challenge posts  (My own personal cooking thru this cookbook---The Search for the Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie by Gwen Steege)

Because if I make them too close together, I would weigh 300 lbs, and I really don't want to do that.
I need time in between to walk and go to water aerobics.

I wrote in my notes, that these cookies were   "a pretty good little cookie", and it's true, they were.  They are not as puffy as some people like them, but the edges were a little crispy and they were soft and chewy, just like I like them.    (and that's the most important, right?  I mean after all I ate 2/3 of them. )
This cookie was developed for the Flying Cloud Inn in New Marlboro, Massachusetts and sent in to this cookbook to help in the search.   The directions say that  you can make this soft and chewy or crispy by regulating the baking time.  I find this to be true a lot of the time with most of the Ch. Chip Cookies recipes I've tried, but I'm following the directions exactly.

I would make this cookie again.  (if I ever had time to make the same recipe 2x)

Chocolate Chip Cookies #6

3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts  (Okay...I didn't follow this recipe exactly---I didn't add the nuts, the Handyman doesn't care for them, so I try to be nice about the nuts every once in a while)

Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugars, and vanilla until light.  Add eggs one at a time and mix until well blended. Add sifted ingredients and mix until well combined. Add chocolate chips and nuts and blend well.
Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto a well-greased baking sheet. Bake at  350degrees F, for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned for a chewy cookies.  Slightly longer for a crispy cookie.  Let stand on baking sheet for one minute before removing to a cooling rack.
makes 6 doz.

Now...about those books.
The Stephin King book was GREAT!  (will do a post soon for my Stephen King Project challenge)
The S.J. Watson book was Good!  (it was a book club choice.  We met last Wednesdy to discuss.  The concensous was positive.   Almost all of us enjoyed it)
The John Irving book is.....hard to get in to for me.  But I have loved other books of his that I've read, so I will perservere. (and I have faith it will end up being GREAT also)

It is graduation week here in Winnemucca  (High School graduation), so we have a couple of graduation parties to attend.    I have a ribbon cutting for a new business today.  Books I want to read, meals I want to cook, grandkids I want to play with... A full weekend ahead of me!  You?

I also like crispy edges with a soft chewy middle. Which may describe me a bit too.

How can the Handyman not like nuts? I prefer a soft and chewy cookie too.
