It's Monday--What are you reading?!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile!

Just finished this one.
I liked it a lot, but not as much as I liked her first one.
I think.
I think in her first book, you really got inside the characters minds/thoughts.  With this book there was a little bit of disconnect, but I'm sure the author intended that.
Still great, I just felt a little disconnected.

And just started this one!
Food memoirs are my favorite!

I read all the books I said I was going to last week, plus this!

It's a hot item right now, as everyone who reads her blog and belongs to her book club is reading it.
I do have to say I liked it--it was interesting and now I'm trying to decide who, what the Handyman and I are.
😊

This week, I'll be doing some reading for my
R.I.P  Challenge.
It's that time of year!  Fall-ish, creepyish, ghoulish.
I don't like flat out horror books, so I tend to stay with creepy and gothic and.... well, there is this one fantasy series, that's so off the wall, (but I love it) I consider it to be included in the challenge.
It's category is "para-normal' so that's kind of in the creepy group, right?
It's just a really fun read.

Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo can take the form of either man or jaguar,

And also

On the morning of August 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden calls out to her maid: Someone’s killed Father. The brutal ax-murder of Andrew and Abby Borden in their home in Fall River, Massachusetts, leaves little evidence and many unanswered questions. While neighbors struggle to understand why anyone would want to harm the respected Bordens, those close to the family have a different tale to tell—of a father with an explosive temper; a spiteful stepmother; and two spinster sisters, with a bond even stronger than blood, desperate for their independence.

I never get as much reading done as I would like to, but I did get to these last week:

I really, really liked this one!
It wasn't on my TBR list, but it arrived in the mail on Wednesday and I was done by Friday.

I would highly recommend this one.

This one was---just okay.  I read it for book club and tomorrow night I have to go defend my opinion in someone's house, who really loved it.

I would recommend with reservations.

And this---just because I'm a little bit in love with Harry Dresden.

Of course recommend, BUT it is a very unique audience who love a wizard.

This week tho...
I'm excited to read

That's my plan for the week!
What are your reading plans?

a bonus photo!   😀😀
of my library book club.  We discussed Torch by Cheryl Strayed.

Feelings were half and half on this one.  4 against 4.

It's Monday (what are you reading?)

I didn't get as much reading done last week as I thought I would.
(it's because .....
church meeting on Wednesday night
dinner with Friends on Thursday night
dinner with other friends on Friday night
coffee with old friend at 8am on Saturday
book club at 9am on Saturday
church women's group brunch at 10;30 on Saturday
60th birthday party for a friend at 5:30pm on Saturday
Church at 10am on Sunday
Miss America Viewing party Sunday evening...
Oh, and I cooked 7 dishes/recipes from my Friday Friend Cookbook this weekend for the countdown,  all in addition to my job)

So... as I said, I didn't get as much reading done (or housework) as I would have liked to.
Here's what happened last week

It was fun read--a quick read even tho it was at 372 pages.
It covered some major subjects, but in a not very complex way.
A solid 3.3 stars.

This was a book about grief.
I liked it.
I will let you know what my library book club thinks after tomorrow night.  I have a feeling it won't be their favorite.
I guess I like Cheryl Strayed.
We have read her previous book "Wild" in this book club and I remember my friend Gini being appalled that you would begin a hike of that kind without proper training! She says you just don't start walking for heavens sake.
Anyway, I'm sure they'll have strong opinions on this one also.  Grief is very personal, and to be honest, I feel this was a novel in name only.  I think Strayed wrote about her grief experience  in novel form.
I you read it I'd love to hear what you thought in the comments.
I listened to the audio version and the author read it--I like the cadence of her voice.
**********************************************

This is what I have planned for this upcoming week!

I'm halfway thru this one!

Still in the mood for some Harry---just haven't gotten to it.

For a book club!

I just got back from a quick (very quick, but with a long car ride) trip, where I took too many books, as usual ) but I did my little pile some justice!

I finished this Thursday night:

A fun suspenseful read.
I was surprised.  That's all I'm going to say.

Read this while I was there and the first part of the way back:

Loved it!
(even tho it was a common literary theme)
I  can't stop thinking about it.

And finished this during the last, long, dreary end of the trip:

I loved, loved, loved this book!

***********
This week I'm reading---
(2 of them leftover from the car trip--that I didn't get to--and one because I feel the need for some Harry Dresden!)

Apparently I have been missing in action since October of 2016.
I can tell you that I've read 72 books so far in 2017!

I'm sure you don't want a back log of my books, so I'll just tell you what I read last week...

(they were both very good.  I listened to the audio version of 'The Hate U Give',  I would highly recommend it.)

And what I'm reading this week.....

That's what I'm reading.
How about you?
What are you reading this week?

And best books of summer?
I loved:
Beartown by Fredrik Bachman
Stingray Afternoons by Steve Rushin
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
The Alice Network by Kate Quinn
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

Those are some of my favorites.
What are some of your favorite summer reads so far?
I define summer reads as between Memorial Day to Labor Day.
So the end is almost here.

Can I say 'YAY' for fall?
YAY!!
(even tho it's supposed to be 101 today--fall is coming!)

And this week?

On my Kindle:

In my hand:

On Audio:

A little bit of non-fiction every night:

This is sooo good!!  Very interesting read.

And that's what I'm reading.
How about you?

Okay....the run down on what I'm reading!

On my Kindle:
loved her book "a Homemade Life" and like her podcast "Spilled Milk"

In my Hand:
I was given this to do a review on---it has all my weaknesses; memoir, food, travel books!

On Audio:
For the Classic Club also.

Totally Lit Bookclub:
I read this for Lit Wits in March-- I also will not be doing a re-read, but I loved the book.

Lit Wits Bookclub:
This was my pick for the month, but I made them vote on a couple.  So, not really MY pick, but their's.   I would have chosen Rosemary's Baby, for a good spooky read!  But I'm also always up for a good foodie/restaurant/love story too!

Library Bookclub:
I've read this before and liked it, so I won't be doing a re-read--I don't have the time this month.

TBR Bookclub:
I'm waiting to find out for sure, but it looks like I'll be reading this for October (the voting ends on Friday--you can vote here if you want to)

Classic Bookclub:
I just joined the Classic Book Club and started reading/listening to this classic mystery:

But due to the Classic 'spin',  I will be reading this one soon.  I have 60 days to do so.
The names alone might do me in!
But I'm excited!

And that's what is on my bookshelf right now.

Well, there are 1000 things on my bookshelf right now, but these are what I'm reading this month.
You?
