Making my way thru my Friday Friend Cookbook, one recipe at a time.
What is the Friday Friend cookbook: I have about 50 of my closest friends and family on an e-mail forum which I called the Friday Friends (from all over the county). At first, most of them didn't know each other, (they knew me) but over the past 18 years, we've answered and shared silly--and serious---questions, exchanged Secret Santa Christmas gifts, had a dieting contest in which we paid a $1 a week and that money went to a scholarship fund for a Friday Friends son's memorial scholarship, and we went on a great vacation for my 52 birthday.
AND, we contributed recipes for a cookbook.
I was looking at the cookbook the other night and I said, "I should make every recipe in here for my blog."
The Handyman--who knows me better than I know myself (this happened to be a question on the Friday Friend forum once---does your spouse/partner know you better than you know yourself?)--said, "you'll never, EVER do that."
WELL---maybe I'll show him! Maybe I will.

Which brings me to this... recipe #167
Cherrie Lou Who's
Best Burrito Meat
It really is a great burrito meat!
Just sayin'.
I'm making this simple today. My Cherrie Lou Who story is-- short. 😉
After second thought, maybe not.
Once upon a time, her brother, The Handyman ran for Mayor of our little town.
During Labor Day Weekend there is a parade, a rodeo, a fair, a buckaroo breakfast (hosted by the Methodist Men, which the Handyman is one of).
Since he was running for office, and Labor Day Weekend is a big political weekend in rural communities, we invited friends and family from near and far to come join in the festivities. His sister, Cherrie Lou Who and her husband Mike, , from Washington State, are the only ones who came down.
(from out of town that is)
*let me meander a moment here-- Mike is my favorite brother in law. WHAT? Well, it's true--all of my favorite brother-in-laws, are named Mike (except for Greg and Scott and Ron and Dennis and Pete) but 3 of my brother-in-laws are named Mike! And I thought I was being funny, until I remembered Greg and Scott and Ron and Dennis, etc...
Oh well Mike is still GREAT!
For the parade we made T-shirts printed with "Rich Stone for Mayor" and we made banners for the truck
Look! It was right where I thought it would be. I've used it for a paint shirt and sometimes a night shirt.
The Handyman drove the truck and waved and a bunch of us, our grandson (we only had one at the time) and a friend or two of his, myself, Cherrie Lou Who and Mike rode in the back and threw candy. (My favorite Mikey accidentally hit someone in the head with a smartee and got kidded the whole weekend about "that's not the way to win votes".)
Then after the parade, we had lots of people to our house for a BBQ.
The next morning we went to the Buckaroo Breakfast with Cherrie Lou Who and Mikey and our Friday Night Friend, John Milton. They serve pancakes and sausage and eggs. You know the usual 'insert anything (fair event-fund raiser) here' breakfast.
We were campaigning.
As were a bunch of other politicians.
Nevada is a large state, small population. If you run for a state office, you need the support of the rural communities, so on our Labor Day weekend, we see tons of people who are running for State offices.
One was Danny Tarkanian.
He was running for Secretary of State.
Of course he's in the parade, of course he's at the Buckaroo Breakfast. (He shook many more hands than the Handyman, who was more concerned about his eggs being cold).
Labor Day comes, Labor Day goes.
I am having my Tuesday morning 6am coffee at my BFF' house. (I have many BFF's, but she's an awesome one!)
this is what we look like on Tuesday mornings:
This at 6am in our jammies. But we're celebrating the fact that we are having our 8th grandchild!! Her's due in Feb, mine in March. Yay!
When all of the sudden I look down at her table and notice a campaign flyer
Not her real address---but what prompted me to turn it over?
and what prompted me to save it all these years?
Why did I not get a flyer?
from Danny Tarkanian sent to people in our county. And guess who is prominent on the front picture?
Cherrie Lou Who and Mike!!
And of course, our church friends serving the breakfast!
The Handyman tries in vain to get in the photo, but, no such luck. I am looking that way and smiling, but our Friday Night friend, John? Not at all.
So cute! And so very supportive of her brother's campaign.
We find it hysterical that our Washington State Relatives, who are not political at all, end up on a Nevada State campaign flyer!
We amuse ourselves quite well, the Handyman and I.
For the record---
The Handyman lost the race.
As did Danny.
But you can rest assured that Cherrie Lou Who's Best Burrito Meat is truly THE BEST!
Recipe #167 is posted!
only 127 left to go!
(my fear is that I've mis-counted and when I get down to the end I'll have to fess up to being dumb at math and everyone will groan that there is more to come!)

I would have voted for The Handyman! I'll have to try this recipe - it sounds great!
What an adventurous husband you have to fun for mayor. Wow. Burritos are great comfort food. I love seeing how you're blogging more regularly.
I absolutely love this series on your blog. It makes me want to do something similar to honor the friendships I have forged over the years and a reminder to keep making memories. I added this recipe to my menu for the upcoming week for Taco Tuesday. Thank you for sharing the recipe and your stories!!
