Bout of Books: Villian Mash-up

Today's challenge is a tough one for me!
It's the Villain Mash-up!

Here is what she says about it:

Villains are my favorite people in books. They just make books more interesting, don't they?

Here are the rules for the challenge:
  • Pick villains from two different books that you would love to see fight each other. It can be from any genre and it doesn't even have to be a physical fight. It could be a verbal one as well.
  • Give a short reason why you think these villains should fight each other
  • You don't have to have a blog to do this challenge. You could tweet it or instagram it or even leave it in the comments. If you do tweet it, don't forget to mention me (@bingeingonbooks) and use the hashtag #villainmashup
  • You must be a Bout of Books participant AND you must do this challenge to be eligible for the giveaway.

As I mentioned above, this is a hard one for me.
Do I read books with 'villians?'
Or am I just having a brain malfunction?  Most books have a villain, right?
The only thing I could think of was Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter villains-- they both have great villains in their books, but they are such an easy pick.
I got to thinking --I just read Charlotte's Web to my grandchildren.  Templeton the Rat was a good villain. Hmmmm....who could best him?  Evil Samuel Whiskers perhaps?!!

I think it would have to be a fight of wits tho.  They are both cunning and villainy!   It would be interesting to see who could best each other in a battle of the wills.

Samuel Whiskers from the Roly Poly Pudding

and
Templeton from Charlotte's Web.

(altho i hate to think that Templeton was a vicious as Samuel.)

Those are my two literary villains.
Can you think of any two?

A Rainbow (cover challenge for Bout of Books)

I made a rainbow out of some of my books!
Why?
I am participating in the Day 3 Challenge at Bout of Books.

Ranty Runt (who is hosting this challenge) says:
For the cover challenge, collect books from your bookshelf (physical or virtual) and make yourself a rainbow using the covers. A rainbow is ROYGBIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet). Then take a photo or arrange images of those books into a rainbow, and either post to twitter (@bookybecksa & #boutofbooks), or post to your own blog.

I know I'm late to the game (again) and I didn't even get yesterday's challenge done.  BUT, I have been reading!  And that's the whole point, right.

Bout of Books!

I'm feeling it... I have a Bout of  Books.

I am way behind as I just decided to sign up today, so this is that post as well as the first day post.
But first, you all know what Bout of Books is, right?
It's a Read-a-Thon!

  • It is low pressure, meaning participants are only asked to push themselves to read more than they normally would during any given week. There is no competition between readers.

It's my favorite BECAUSE I have no goal---only to read more. You don't have to ask me to read more, more than once!
Check out the website for all info. You have a short time to join in. Get going!

Today I am supposed to introduce myself in 6 words.
(sigh) this is really difficult, because I guess I am a TALKER.

That's me!

Sunday Post #6

This is my Sunday Post #6
The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's late in the day, but it's still SUNDAY in Pacific Standard Time, so I have a few hours left to get my post in.
I pretty much abandoned the post during the month of December.  I have no excuse except---I have no discipline?  I don't manage my time wisely?
The time management is a fact---I'm a horrible procrastinator--but I usually come in with an A+ in the nick of time (I did it in school all the time).  But that was a long time ago, I can't pull all nighters anymore catching up on stuff.
Or can I?
Anyway---never mind.

2015 is gone!
I've never cared about m age--it doesn't bother me at all--but I do tend to get somewhat melancholy at the turning of a new year.  I always have.
It's dumb I know, but it's kind of intimidating when you think about it--like a big blank sheet of paper, just waiting to be written on.  OR maybe the words are already there --maybe our fate is already written--and we just can't see it.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN??
What's in store!??
ACK!!

Just kidding---I know that
Good things are in store for 2016!

It started off  very good, we had a couple of our grandchildren for the week.  We played board games (tons of them--Uno, Connect Four, Left, Right Center,  Headbanz, Mancala, Shut the Box), saw Alvin and the Chipmunks, went sledding, celebrated the new year with some Pie in the Face!

On New Year's day we all had our "FIRST BOOK" read.
(I joined Sheila at Book Journey for this)
I sent their mom this photo and she said "this makes my heart happy".  She is as big a book nerd as I am---and she's not even related by blood!
It makes my heart happy too.

Then the Handyman and his first read!  I have no idea what it is.
We inherited my dad's Kindle and he had a ton of books on there.  Mostly  Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Lee Child-- you get the drift of what kind of books my dad liked--and the Handyman is reading them all, I guess.  We did find an interesting read on there tho....50 shades of gray
UM---DAD??!!  and he's not even around for us to tease him!
The Handyman says he's NOT reading those 3.  YES!  All three are on there.
But you know...since I can't see the screen, perhaps he is reading them???

It was a fun week.
On the blog, I thought I did NOTHING, but it looks like I did!
I was trying to fit everything in  by the end of the year, so I'd write posts after the kids were in bed. Guess I was too tired to remember.

Coming up this week on the blog:
A couple of Friday Friend Cookbook posts this week!

Have a great week!
FYI, it is now 11:11 PST on Sunday---see?  Just in the nick of time!

Saturday Snapshot

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by

To participate in Saturday Snapshot: post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see.

We braved the  7 degree temperature on New Year's Day  and did a little sledding with the grandkids!
I took pics but the Handyman did take his turn.

This is it! First post of the year---first book of the year!

Here it is!

I've been looking forward to  joining up with Sheila at Book Journey for the first book of the year.
Today, if you check out Book Journey, there will be a collage with everyone sharing their first read of the year.  It should be fun to check out everyone's books.
I've never thought about it before---about what book I begin the year with, but this year, after reading Sheila's post, that's all I could think about.
I chose a book, (it seems like a good January book---I just want to watch the snow and drink hot coffee, finish up the Christmas cookies and READ THIS BOOK!)  but then I had to hold off on it, so that I would indeed be reading it on Jan 1st.  I was afraid if I started it too soon, I would finish it---I held off until December 31st and am carrying over to today!
For some reason choosing a book to see me into a new years was symbolic!  Of what, I don't know---it just seemed important this year.
THIS is bookworm/book nerd/ book dork problem #19, I'm sure--- feeling that a book is so important.

Then---it dawned on me that I read more than one book at  a time, so just in case you want to know how I'm brining in my New Year.... here goes:

Bringing in 2016 on my Kindle:
Last Words by Rich Zahradnik

On Audio:
Travels With Charley

And my first Newbery Award Book will be:

Have a great New Year's Day!
I wish you all laughter thru-out the year.
