A Drink Before the War

From Goodreads:

Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro know their home, rough neighborhoods of South Boston. Their first PI job seems simple - find Jenna, a black cleaner, and confidential state documents she stole. Extortion, assassination, and child prostitution extend from the ghetto to the government. The worst atrocities are closest to home, and committed in the name of love.

From Me:
Well, I bought this book from Audible.com when they had their 'first in a series' sale.  I have liked other books by Lehane and it was on sale, so I figured 'why not?"
I loved that this story reminded me of an old time detective novel.
Sam Spade-ish?
I loved that Lehane made references to music all thru-out the book. Every time the characters got into the car, he described the music they were listening to. I could make my own play list if I wanted to.
I liked the two main characters Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro.
I liked the story.
The narration was great.

Will I continue on with the rest of the series?
I'm not sure---it was good, there just isn't enough time to read them all.
3 stars.

I'm going to add this to my Cloak and Dagger challenge for 2016.

I'm reading a Lehane book for my book club right now and it's okay. I loved Mystic River and this just isn't living up to that for me.

The Audible sale sounds dangerous! I do like the sound of a vintage-y feeling detective story and am not sure I've actually read Lehane. I'll keep this in mind next time I'm looking for an audio book.

I have this one in print but haven't read it. I really enjoyed Mystic River by the author. I read Shutter Island as well, and liked it.
